January 6, 2004 Program

Our guest speaker today was Paul B. Kelman, Executive Vice President of Central Atlanta Progress, Inc. - Atlanta Downtown Improvement District. In sharing with us about "Imagine Downtown Atlanta," Mr. Kelman noted the following:

  1. Central Atlanta Progress, founded in 1981, has a three-point Mission for the development of Downtown Atlanta, namely:
    1. Develop economic vitality / livable environment.
    2. Develop accessible transportation infrastructure.
    3. Develop strong coordinated marketing - revitalized the "Atlanta" brand.
  2. The Master Plan focuses on five prime development opportunity areas to guide future public and private investment, namely:
    1. Jones / Simpson / Alexander-McGill.
    2. Eastside / auburn Avenue.
    3. Peachtree Corridor.
    4. Terminus (Railroad Gulch).
    5. South Central Business district.
  3. Central Atlanta Progress expects to achieve at least the following outcomes:
    1. Identification of projects for implementation.
    2. Development site opportunities.
    3. Transportation improvement.
    4. Public space improvement.

Recognition

President Lantz provided a token of appreciation to Officers David Wilson and Roy Dorsey for being selected as Officer of the Month for August and October of Zone Five of APD. These officers showed unusual courage and dedication in capturing three vicious criminals who had to be chased down. President Lantz extended congratulations also to all who participated in decorating our Christmas Tree that was coordinated by Connie and Ronni.

Announcements

  1. BOARD MEETING ON JANUARY 9TH.
  2. Rising Leaders Program will be held on January 13th at 2:00 p.m. at the Apparel Mart. Sherri says that Mr. Howard Jackson will speak.
  3. Our Valentine Gala will take place on February 13th. Ronni and Yvonne remind us that they need our auction items and ticket purchases as soon as possible. Please remember that early ticket purchases will be $50.00 whereas later it will be $75.00
  4. Mark your calendar for February 28th for Mid-Winter Training Conference at Wesleyan College in Macon.
