March 23, 2004 Program

Our speaker today was Brian Leary, Vice President of Design and Development at Atlanta Station which is a joint-venture partnership for redeveloping the historic Atlantic Steel property in Midtown Atlanta. Accompanying Mr. Leary was co-worker Adam Baker. In sharing with us about the design and development of Atlantic Station, Mr. Leary's message included the following points:

  1. Atlantic Station consists of 138 acres of land on which will be constructed 300 condominiums, two million square feet of retail space and six million square feet of office space.
  2. The cost of the construction will be about two billion dollars of which about $150 million to be spent on infrastructure.
  3. The projected time for completion of the project is five years for the residential area, three years for the retail are, and twelve years for the office area.
  4. Atlantic Station will provide 30,000 jobs and 10,000 residents.
  5. A main thoroughfare to Atlantic Station will be 17th Street which will extend from Midtown to Northside Drive.
