April 20, 2004 Program

Our speaker today was Ms. Robin Hensley, President of Personal Construction and Chairman of the Northside Hospital Foundation. During her presentation on the subject "Volunteerism, It Contagious," Ms. Hensley noted these points:

  1. Northside Hospital Foundation provides an opportunity for its 5,000 employees to serve as volunteers in at least 75 projects.
  2. Illustrative of the groups helped by the Foundation are Habitat for Humanity, Hands on Atlanta, United Way, and Partnerships with 32 schools.
  3. The emphasis placed on volunteerism by the Foundation serves the community, boosts staff morale, and enhances the company's profile and reputation.
  4. Northside Hospital Foundation is open to receiving application for consideration from a charitable group or cause.
  5. Northside Hospital is a non-profit institution and it accommodates the largest number of child births in the United States.

Kiwanis Education

The newest nations to join Kiwanis International are Belize (Sept. 27th) and Peru (Sept. 30th).

Recognition

President Lantz expressed thanks to Sherri for having a successful Rising Leaders session which was attended by speaker Alexis Scott (Editor of the Atlanta Daily Report), 20 students, and seven Kiwanians. We were all glad to welcome Angie back.

Announcements

  1. BOARD MEETING AT 7:30 A.M. ON FRIDAY, May 7th.
  2. Rising Leaders' Award Luncheon will take place May 11, 2004, at Alumni Hall, Georgia State University.
  3. Sandy and dusty invite us all to join with them during the Inman Park Annual Celebration this weekend. Snacks and beverages will be available at Dusty's place on his front porch, 166 Elizabeth Street.
  4. Angie and Jerry need help with Mrs. Nursing Home Pageant at the Airport Renaissance Hotel on May 8th.
  5. Kiwanis International Convention will take place in St. Louis, June 25 - 29, 2004.
  6. Our Georgia District Convention will be held at Jekyll Island, August 6 - 8, 2004.
  7. George and Dusty are looking at our Fall Kiwanis Travel to be a 16-day trip to India on October 5th and an 8 day trip to St. Petersburg on October 10th.
