January 25, 2005 Program

Our speaker today was Scott A. Dockter, President/CEO of PDB Worldwide Fulfillment Services (Professional Books Distributor) which was a recipient of the Georgia Business Ethics Award sponsored by the Atlanta Chapter Society of Financial Service Professionals and Georgia State University College of Business. The American Business Ethics Award honors companies that demonstrate a firm commitment to ethical business practices in everyday operations, management philosophies, and responses to crises or challenges. In relating to us some of the characteristics of PBD, Mr. Dockter noted the following:

  1. PBD was founded in 1976 in Columbus, Ohio and later moved to Atlanta. The company is located now in Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Alpharetta (headquarters).
  2. The motto of PBD is "Customs First." Trustworthiness, fiscal responsibility, innovation, and family unity are four of the company's qualities. It believes in obeying the rules and being free of fraud.
  3. PBD is a $52 million plus operation and has more than 110 clients and 265 employees.
  4. In regard to employee relations, 96 percent of the employees say that PBD is a great place to work.
  5. PBD makes use of the efficient and expeditious shipping service of UPS.

  1. Sandy who reported that successful interclubs were held with Buckhead Breakfast and
  2. Buckhead Luncheon.
  3. Antje whose update on Rising Leaders included guest speaker Jeff Williams for meeting on February 8th.
  4. Sherry who noted that the membership committee is meeting and making plans that will be revealed very soon for implementation.

  1. Board meets at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, February 4th.
  2. Rising Leaders session will be held on Tuesday, February 8th.
  3. Circle K Club at Morehouse College will receive its Charter at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 2nd, on campus.
  4. Yvonne and Ronni are encouraging us to purchase our ticket for the Valentine Gala on February 11th at the Ansley Club.
  5. The Mid Winter Conference is set for Saturday, March 5th, at Wesleyan College in Macon.
  6. Our International President Case Van Kleef and his wife will honor the Georgia Key Club at its 60th Annual Convention at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 1st, at the Atlanta Marriott Gwinnett Place Hotel (1775 Pleasant Hill Road).
