March 29, 2005 Program
Our speaker today was Dr. Michael Niemier, Assistant Professor of Nanotechnology
at the Georgia Institute of Technology. During his presentation on
nanotechnology, some of the points noted by Dr. Niemier were these:
-
The center for nanoscience and nanotechnology is a new area of research at
Georgia Tech which is exploring the brave new world of atomic-scale engineering
in pursuit of developing the ability to assemble individual atoms like Lego
blocks.
-
When more fully developed, nanotechnology will allow for making super computers
to fit on the head of a pin.
-
The increasing success of nanotechnology is already evidenced by the use
of nanoscale circuits in chips for computers and cell phones, and the use
of nano particles and fibers in automobiles, tennis balls, and golf clubs.
-
The major ongoing challengne of nanosciencce and nanotechnology is to maximize
the capability of the atomic-scale computer in an expeditious manner at an
affordable cost.
Visitors
We were delighted to have visiting with s today Robert O. (George) and Galleria
Interclubbers Kelly (Circle K District Administrator) and Clay.

Recognition
President Ray recognized Sherry who challenged each of us to join in the
Membership Drive during the period of March 29th through June 28th. Thus
far, George is the leading recruiter of new members. Recognition was given
also to Bob B. who noted that the Easter Picnic for Hillside Children was
successful for ninety children and six Kiwanians.
Pin Violation
The Immediate Past President blessed our Compassionate Mel with silence and
a gift.
Kiwanis Education
A club with a membership of twenty members or less may get credit for a two
member interclub.
President Ray's Quote
"How poor are they that have not patience! What wound did ever heal but by
degrees?"
-- Shakespeare's "Othello"
