May 3, 2005 Program

Our guest speaker today was Rachel Tobin Ramos, Staff Reporter for the Atlanta Business Chronicle. In sharing with us about her work and the Atlanta Business Chronicle, Ms. Ramos noted the following points:

  1. The Atlanta Business Chronicle is a customized newspaper which "designed to inform decision-making executives, investors, and managers on industry in the 20-county Atlanta Metropolitan Statistical Area."
  2. The Chronicle is linked to 22 other similar publications across the nation that is published by American City Business Journals, Inc.
  3. The Chronicle is a weekly publication whose subscription rate is $90.00 annually. Currently, there are about 50,000 subscribers.
  4. Even though stories presented in the Chronicle are gathered from a variety of sources such as the top 100 businesses in Georgia and the General Assembly, the accuracy of this information cannot be guaranteed.
  5. The editorial board of the Chronicle gives guidance to reporters and writers in identifying and developing relevant information for publication.

Recognition

President Ray recognized Bob Bottom who reported that the Ms. Nursing Home pageant was attended by several of our members and that the 2005 Ms. Nursing Home is a charming and beautiful person from Gwinnett County who was selected from among 22 contestants. President Ray noted that he along with ten other members attended the Division Rally which revealed our own Ronni becoming Lt. Governor-Elect of Division 1 for 2005-2006. Sandy was indeed happy with the reports of Bob and President Ray because of the Interclub Credit received from both events.

Sam and Past Governor George were the guests of Our Compassionate Mel.

Kiwanis Education

The newest Kiwanis Club in Georgia is "The Old Campbell Kiwanis Club" which meets every Thursday at noon at the Green Manor Restaurant in Union City.

Announcements

  1. BOARD MEETS AT 7:30AM ON FRIDAY, MAY 6TH.
  2. The Annual Student Recognition Luncheon will take place at Georgia State University on May 10th.
  3. The 90th Annual Kiwanis International Convention will take place in Honolulu, Hawaii during July 2-6, 2005.
  4. The Georgia District Convention is scheduled for Athens during August 5-7, 2005.
  5. The Annual Kiwanis Travel is planned for China on October 17, 2005. See Dusty and George.
