Our speaker today was John Grant, Executive Director of 100 Black Men of Atlanta, Inc. In sharing with us pertinent information about the organization, Mr. Grant noted the following points:

  1. The 100 Black Men of Atlanta was organized in 1986 to help students graduate from high school and post secondary education. Thirty-five students from Archer High School represented the first recipients selected to participate in Project Success.
  2. Education, mentoring, economic empowerment, and health and wellness are the major program areas of Project Success.
  3. Criteria for selection of students for the program include economic need, interview, and essay writing on Why Be a Member of Project Success.
  4. Currently, the 280 members of The 100 Black Men of Atlanta are supporting 100 college students and looking forward to expanding that number to 260 students. Among the 103 Chapters of The100 Black Men of America, Inc. The Atlanta Club has the best record of college graduates.

Recognition

President Ray recognized Bill Rabel to present the Policeman of the Month and Sgt. Shepherd. Sgt. Shepherd commended Officer Nelms for his investigative alertness and steady persistence in discovering two witnesses who identified the criminal that seriously injured the victim who died shortly after the beating. President Ray extended deep appreciation to Officer Nelms for his noble service. President Ray provided an opportunity for Past President Lantz to present the slate of Officers and Directors for 2005-2006 which was unanimously accepted by all members present and voting. President Ray had Bill King to do a second reading of the proposed Bylaw of allowing official meetings of committees and Board by telephone conference, which needs one more reading before it is forwarded to International Kiwanis for consideration during its meeting in Honolulu. Speaking for Sherry, President Ray reminded us of the need to invite prospective members to our meetings.
