August 30, 2005 Program
Our guest speaker today Robert B. Ormsby, president of the Aviation Museum
at Marietta, Georgia and former CEO of Lockheed. Mr. Ormsby shared with us
several points about the Aviation Museum which included the following:
-
The Aviation Museum, which is to be located at the corner of South Cobb Drive
and New Atlanta Drive, was conceived in August 2002 by a group of local leaders
who met at Southern National Bank.
-
The primary function of the Museum is to preserve and honor the past
as an inspiring learning environment that promotes critical thinking in students
of all ages.
-
The Museum will feature exhibits and displays focusing on:
-
The economic, social, and civic impact of an aircraft plant established in
early 1942;
-
The legendary aircrafts that have been and continue to be built at Lockheed
such as B-29, B-47, C-130, and F/A-22.
-
The education and inspiration center that will stimulate interest in engineering,
science, and mathematics courses.
-
The Museum is expected to be opened to the public by 2008.
-
The Aviation Museum solicits support for its financial goal of $300,000.
A gift of $1,000, which is tax-deductible, is qualification for becoming
a Founding Member. Contributions are to be mailed to: Aviation Museum at
