October 25, 2005 Program
Our guest speaker today was Barnie Simms, Program Director of the Fulton
County Child Advocacy Center (FC CAC). Mr. Simms shared with us several points
about the FC CAC which included the following: Several members were given
special recognition which included the following:
-
The mission of the FC CAC is to provide a safe and supportive place in the
City of Atlanta and Fulton County where a multidisciplinary team of specialized
professionals can work collaboratively to ensure protection, treatment, healing,
and justice for children who have been abused, neglected and forgotten.
-
The multidisciplinary team consists of representatives from law enforcement,
child protection, prosecution, mental health, medical, advocacy, courts and
education.
-
Even though FC CAC has an interim program in space donated by the City of
Atlanta, there is urgent need to build a larger, state-of-the-art facility
that will co-house all multidisciplinary team agency members as well as key
child and family serving organizations and services that promote child protection
and healthy families.
-
Mr. Simms and his staff (Project Coordinator Kimberley Shellman-Borna and
Program Assistant Terri Morton) are soliciting private support as well as
governmental financing to secure this much needed comprehensive center.
Visitors
We were delighted to have present with us Jodie Davis (Bob T.) and the guest
of Lantz who will be identified in the next issue of the Grits.
