This morning’s guest speaker was Ms. Rebecca Roberts of the Atlanta Preservation Center. What is the Atlanta Preservation Center, you ask? APC is a “citywide non-profit membership organization” dedicated to enhancing Atlanta’s quality of life by promoting the preservation of Atlanta’s historically, architecturally and culturally significant buildings, neighborhoods and landscapes through education and advocacy.
How is this goal accomplished? APC provides guided walking tours directed by ‘trained volunteer tour guides’ – guides trained by experts in the fields of architecture, preservation, planning and history. APC has operated this ‘award winning program’ for more than 25 years.
Want to know more about the “Sweet Auburn/MLK district, the Fox Theatre, Historic downtown, Inman Park, Grant Park, Druid Hills, or Margaret Mitchell’s Ansley Park area? APC is the organization to contact.
All tours are regularly scheduled. No advance reservations are needed for daytime tours of less than 20 people. The walking tours last from one to two hours, depending on the tour location and size. In the event of rain, all tours are cancelled except the Fox theatre tour. No tours are given on legal holidays.
Special group tours are available for 20 or more people. Reservations are required and should be made two weeks in advance. The cost is $10 per person for adults, $5 for seniors and students, plus a surcharge based on the total number in your group. To reserve a tour or for more information, call 404-688-3353.
Special Twilight tours are offered March through November in the following historic districts of Atlanta: Historic Midtown, Ansley Park, Druid Hills, and Inman Park.
