Rising Leaders Initiative

Criteria for Selecting Most Improved Students 1999-00

Two students (total) from each high school. Current 9th or 10th graders are eligible. Selection is based on the evaluation of the school counselor and/or principal. Students must satisfy ALL three criteria listed below:

Measurements

1. Significant increase in either academic performance or behavior and attendance Academic performance
  • Increase by 1 full point or letter grades in 2 or more core courses (math, science, English, etc.) or
  • Increase by 1 full point or letter in overall GPA

OR
Behavior and attendance

  • Demonstrated reduction/elimination of demerits, referrals to counselor, or other discipline measures or
  • Increased class attendance to 95% overall (excluding verified, excused absences)
2. Demonstrated motivation, initiative and commitment to succeed and excel
  • Participation in an extracurricular activity such as school organization, part-time jobs, or other programs or
  • Preference can be given to students involved in other programs (such as PromiseShop)
3. Commitment to participate in Rising Leaders program (Nov. 1999, January-February-March 2000)
  • Determined by interview with student for expressed interest and
  • Attendance at first or second session (required or student may be dropped from program)

NOTE: Eligibility for the leadership experience scholarship program requires that the student attend at least two Rising Leader sessions, including the first or second session.

Nominations for Most Improved Student must be submitted using the attached nomination/evaluation form and registration form to Kathy Solley, Kilpatrick Stockton, 1100 Peachtree Street, Atlanta, GA 30309.

The deadline for providing 2 nominations to Kathy Solley is March 31 , 1999.
